Media Representation of Muslim Women
Jana's research focuses on the media representation of Muslim women. She curated an exhibit exploring this topic at the American University in Cairo titled “Princess Fawzia and the Duality of Egyptian Women”. She also published her research at the “From Archives to Arch-Lives” Conference (2019). The exhibit has welcomed more than 400 guests to date.
To conduct her research, Jana visited several archives around the world: St Antony College Middle East Centre Archive, Oxford University; The UK’s KEW National Archive, which held original handwritten letters between the British ambassador to Egypt and the Prime Minister of England; The Rare Books and Special Collections Library, American University in Cairo (RBSCL). At RBSCL, she found a rich collection of Egyptian magazines and newspapers in the 1930-1950s that featured the Princess.
